Retinal reactive astrocytic tumor: gene expression profiling.

چکیده
Retinal Reactive Astrocytic Tumor: Gene Expression Profiling Retinal vasoproliferative tumor is a benign tumor with glial cell and vascular components.1,2 The clinical picture was well characterized by Shields and colleagues.1,3 Histopathologically, the low-grade tumor is composed of glial fibrillary acidic protein–positive spindle cells and vascular channels.4 A recent study demonstrated that the main component of the lesion was reactive astrocytes and suggested renaming the lesion retinal reactive astrocytic tumor.4 The authors questioned whether Müller cells, the major retinal glia, were involved in the reactive lesions. In this study, we examined the pathologic features and gene expression profile of an excised vasoproliferative tumor and confirmed the expression of 2 important overexpressed and underexpressed genes.

ditions including retinopathy of prematurity, retinal detachment surgery, uveitis, sickle cell disease, and others. Shields and co-workers [11] described this condition as “presumed acquired retinal hemangioma” and finally as “vasoproliferative tumor” [12] , a name that persists in the current literature and clinical practice. Recent histopathologic analyses have shown that the vascular compone...
متن کاملAn Immunohistochemical Study of Cyclin D1 Expression in Astrocytic Tumors and its Correlation with Tumor Grade
Background & Objective: Glioblastoma-multiforme is the high grade form of astrocytic tumors with a short survival time, which are the most common type of brain tumors. Therefore, finding new therapeutic options is essential. Cyclin D1 is expressed in some human malignancies and can be a potential target for therapeutic intervention. The aim of the present study was to determine...
متن کاملGSK3β and CREB3 Gene Expression Profiling in Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors
Background: Salivary gland tumors (SGT) are rare lesions with uncertain histopathology. One of the major signaling pathways that participate in the development of several tumors is protein kinase A. In this pathway, glycogen synthase kinase β (GSK3β) and cAMP responsive element binding protein (CREB3) are two genes which are supposed to be down regulated in most human tumors. The expression lev...

متن کاملHuman Cancer Biology IDHMutation and Neuroglial Developmental Features Define Clinically Distinct Subclasses of Lower Grade Diffuse Astrocytic Glioma
Purpose:Diffuse gliomas represent the most prevalent class of primary brain tumor. Despite significant recent advances in the understanding of glioblastoma [World Health Organization (WHO) IV], its most malignant subtype, lower grade (WHO II and III) glioma variants remain comparatively understudied, especially in light of their notable clinical heterogeneity. Accordingly, we sought to identify...
